Arcelor Mittal Jubail achieves project milestones 11 August, 2011
Arcelor Mittal Jubail is pleased to announce the achievement of significant milestones in the construction of its world-class seamless tubular products mill located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jubail.
Most importantly, more than six million hours have been worked on the construction site without any lost time injuries (LTI) as of August, 2011. Employees and contractors in Jubail recently joined with their colleagues throughout the world in participating in the Arcelor Mittal Global Health and Safety Day.
On site, the installation of more than 21,000 tons of fabricated structural and reinforcement steel has been completed, along with 88,000 cubic meters of concrete poured. Equipment installation has started-the facility will rely on leading edge furnace technology from Tenova LOI Italimpianti, while the rolling mill will feature world- class PQF® (Premium Quality Finishing) technology from SMS Meer.
Arcelor Mittal Jubail will be the largest seamless tubular products mill in the Middle East once operational in Q4 2012, with installed rolling capacity of more than 600,000 tons. Primary products will include oil country tubular goods (OCTG) used in oil and gas extraction, and line pipe used in the transmission of energy products. Operations will include hot billet piercing and sizing, as well as comprehensive finishing and testing facilities including heat treating, upsetting, hydrostatic testing, and end finishing/threading. Total factory area under cover when completed will be 267,000 square meters.
Arcelor Mittal Jubail is a joint venture between the world's largest steel company, Arcelor Mittal, and Al-Tanmiah Company for Industrial and Commercial Investment. The majority shareholder in Al-Tanmiah Company is Bin Jarallah Group based in Riyadh. Total project investment is in excess of USD 800 million, and the facility will employ more than 600 when fully operational.
