ArcelorMittal Jubail in the spotlight 2011
Arcelor Mittal Jubail is the first Greenfield of Arcelor Mittal located in Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil and gas supplier worldwide. After completion, the state-of-the-art seamless pipe mill will supply products aimed primarily at the oil, gas and petro-chemical industries with a capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes per year. Let's have a look at the Arcelor Mittal Jubail success story... from the beginning!
The Jubail Greenfield project, also known as 'Blue Camel' project, was formed in 2007 after a comprehensive feasibility study. Arcelor Mittal holds a 51% participation in the joint venture project developed with Al Tanmiah for the design and construction of the new seamless tube mill which is expected to be operational in late 2012.
Once constructed, the mill will produce more than half of its capacity in oil country tubular goods (OCTG), and the remainder in line pipe and other process pipes. Its location provides access to international sea lanes through the Arabian Gulf as well as proximity to energy sources.
High-quality seamless tubes
The management and operations are under the control of Arcelor Mittal's Tubular Products Division. The business opportunity was, and remains, to take advantage of the sustainable and strong worldwide demand of oil and gas led by the developing countries, especially China and India. Saudi Arabia is by far the biggest oil and gas supplier worldwide with many development projects requiring high-quality seamless tubes for drilling new wells and building new pipelines.
Collaboration of ArcelorMittal entities
With the goal of supplying a complete ArcelorMittal solution, the collaboration of several ArcelorMittal entities has created an excellent opportunity to showcase Arcelor Mittal as a total solution provider.
Arcelor Mittal Jubail has collaborated with segments from Flat Carbon, Long Products, Projects, Distribution, International and Construction. Arcelor Mittal Jubail is a key project for the Tubular Products Division. This will be the largest pipe mill in Saudi Arabia, increasing the division's capacity by over a quarter while providing privileged access to the critical Middle East market. This project is also a major crossroad of collaborations. The partnership with Al Tanmiah proves immensely useful. In addition, inside ArcelorMittal, almost every business is involved in the project, covering areas as diverse as the crucial future semi products supply to the mill, the construction of this major plant and the future handling and distribution of its 600,000 tonnes of highly technical final products," says Arnaud Jouron, VP ArcelorMittal, CEO Tubular Products Division.
